The best thing I've found is to refrigerate the onions and it helps to keep from tearing your eyes somewhat. Try to keep your face turned to the side a little bit also when you are chopping the onions. (The one thing I've discovered that works the best and works everytime is ask someone else to cut the onions for you, hee hee!!)

My chef in garde manger always told me to stand infromt of the airconditioning unit in the cooler and it will help stop the pain and it does work. What you could do is after you have peeled the onions is to soak them in water for awhile before chopping or slicing them.

Peal them under the faucet with running water.
I remember being way out and my son about two got pneumonia and was very sick. No way to get to a doctor. This lady took onions and crushed them up on a hot wet towel. and laid it on his chest. It caused all that mucas to come up and drained his sinuses so he could breath and snapped him right out of it.
When I start to come down with a cold I still do that and it drains all the poisons out and the cold goes away.
Someone told me it works great for sinus headaches. Drains the sinus.

try using steam. it might be your sinuses causing pressure.(this was meant for to relieve pressure, due to a cold or allergies).

edit:onions???oh. rinse or soak it for a while in warm water. that will stop it from getting it into your eyes.
