If you are talking to Jehovah's Witnesses, then the answer must be no.

If you are talking about Jehovah's Witnesses, The Supreme Court of the United States said it isn't illegal.

Of course all good americans here agree with this.

Too many secular governments already ban 'freedom of religion' and 'freedom of speech'. Someday soon, it seems likely that *ALL* secular governments will outlaw all forms of religious expression. Still, Jehovah's Witnesses will preach.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

If there is a "No Solicitors" sign on the door, then yeah, it would be considered illegal, just as any other door-to-door salesman would be

If they can accept an "I'm not interested, thank you" with grace and without pressuring the person they're talking to, then what's the big deal? They're doing as their beliefs direct them - the people they visit are free to listen or say "no thank you".

Being free to talk about their religion is hardly "forcing" it onto someone else - you may want to be careful what you would outlaw, lest something inherent to YOUR beliefs is next.

Yes, we have to be firmer with these people when they come to the door. Dont take any of their magazines (even just to get rid of them) and make it clear that you already know the facts of their religion and still dont believe it.
The problem is that people dont want to offend them so they listen to their s**t which just encourages them all the more.
I dont mind anyone having a different religion but I cant stand it when they try to ram it down my throat. This is how all the wars and other problems start, if they kept their beliefs to themselves rather than trying to convert everyone then no-one would hate them.

We have freedom of religion in this country and I think any religion should be able to preach. They go to a lot of trouble to read you a scripture. I am sure they would rather be home with their familys. They are trying to make the world a better place.
would it be so awful if everyone preached their religion instead of listening to the politicians so arrogantly trying to lie to us.
I think they are a welcome change. All I hear all day is that this politician is gay and had sex with a young man. Or Dateline about pedofiles making dates with 13 year old girls and explaining preverted sex with them. 56 men got blew up in a road side bomb. 7 were tortured to death. Many bodys dug up.
They come and read the bible about a time when the earth will be at peace. After listening to the news all day, that bothers you.
You are very strange?

What should be illegal is acting like an anti-free-speech fascist.

God forbid someone should knock on your door and say 'Jesus loves you!'

Ay carumba, go take a pill.

Religion is nothing to be offered as a thing to get and have or is not a method to be applied or a way of life to be followed or imitated. The ones knocking at your door have really simple ideas of what is life and what are it's causes and issues.
The door to door selling, be it of goods or of ideas, is not acceptable any longer in a modern society where individuals struggle for saving their privacy.
If there is something what every individual is reliable personally and only by him- or herself, it's religion. In any case, religion is not something to be preached but something to get detected, experienced, overthought, devellopped and decently practiced in daily life. It cannot get noisily raised like a building, it is slowly and silently growing like a tree.

I don't think that it should be illegal, but it is wrong,, it presumes that those whose door is being knocked on cannot read, haven't had their own questions, don't know how to do research, and are basically total idiots who have never had any spiritual thoughts on their own before, living in a biblically-dominated culture without have 'heard' anything about Jesus (or etc) before.

So it is offensive, but not illegal.
The irony is that this means is not what their own spiritual teacher, Jesus, taught. According to J, when you live life according to his principles, you will become massively happy and others will 'see your light' and come to you with questions.

The best way to shut them up is read their own religious books, in particular the gospels - - - my favorite is to point out the section where J walked on water, ask if that was a literal event (generally the answer is 'y'), point out the section where J says that his followers would be able to do everything he had done and greater, pull out a bucket of water, ask the door-knocker to step up on top of the water and teach you the true word, but if they can't to shut up and go away.

It's wrong for anybody of any religious faith to try and force their beliefs onto anyone else.
Most believers will tell you that religion is personal matter of choice. If that's the case, keep it as a personal matter.I DON'T WANT TO KNOW

Well my friend there are plenty of Christians, Mormons and other groups that do this...including those little kids selling cookies and candy bars. I invite them in offer them a drink and the fun begins. I am well versed in religion and am a huge smart-@ss. They leave disgusted and I have had some free entertainment. I don't care what religion they are....I'm an equal opportunity sarcastic.
