I've heard that it won't be made and I've also heard it will be put up. When can we expect to have this wall built, and this illegal alien issue solved?

Do you guys think we should just bring all the troops home from Iraq and put them on the border? Will that be more successful than this fence? Of course, our government would have to give authorization to detain these people and have them removed.

Portions of the fence are being built by our National Guard. It's a very slow process though. Whether we see more action quickly is left to be seen. Bush signed the bill......but actions speak more than words and a stroke of a pen. It's a start.

It is not going to be easy to solve this issue. A blanket amnesty wouldn't solve the issue either.....we did that already and that's why we're here now. They sort of forgot about the enforcement end of the deal. Big time. There may need to be some reform since they obviously don't have the manpower to do the job for those that are going about it legally. I'm not even sure "reform" is the right word. They've never really enforced the laws that are already there. They need to speed up the process for those that are doing it legally. They need to get it clarified about the "anchor baby" problem. They need to hit these corrupt businesses that feed off the cheap labor. I think they need to freeze immigration and quit issuing anymore visas till they get this mess figured out. There's problems with bogus SS#'s of which yours could be one.....stolen identies, multiple identies......on down the line. It's not an easy "bam" it's fixed answer. We have to keep on our representatives to make sure that fence is built and look for the right answer.....not an easy one that will blow-up in your face another 20 years from now.

I really don't know,I too have heard different stories. But if it is built I don't think it will be the end of the illegal alien issue, because 700 miles of fence/wall along a border that is 2000 miles long is only a deterrent, not a cure.
The catastrophic effects of illegal immigration have become cliché. According to most Border Patrol officials, an average of 4 million people cross our borders illegally each year. An estimated 1 million illegals are detained leaving 3 million illegals free to roam the United States every year. Illegal immigrants, who most likely number between 20-30 million at this time, cause debt to local, state, and federal governments, to the tune of $384 billion annually. And although illegals account for between 4% and 11% of our population, they commit a whopping 29% of the crimes!

The Bill was passed and signed but, in todays world that doesn't mean much. And even if and when the wall is built it will not stop Illegals for the Simple reason its 1,300 Miles to short. They have proposed a 700 Mile section of Border fence along our Southern Border yet our Southern Border is over 2,000 Miles long. It's like sticking a Bandaid on a Hatchet wound. It might help but not enough.

As soon as it was decided that the 700 mile fence would be built, there was another bill that passed through legisation. This bill stated that Homeland Security would have the say as to where the money was spent. The wall will not only be a wall, but it will also be more border security and a virtual wall.

I, for one, do not see that the problem with immigration will ever be fixed.

why would anyone think that 700 miles of fence will stop them, For decades these people have taken chances that their children may drown while crossing, and crossing the freeway probably isn't much safer. They have had to put their money and lives in the hands of the person driving the semi loaded with them and their families.sadly some have been driven into the desert and left there to bake in the semi trailer. Can you imagine living a life that is so bad that you would take those kind of chances with the lives of your children? And while it is true that they are depleting our resources it really isn't their fault, the gov should have stricter requirements for receiving state aid!How many of you don't realize there are numerous underground tunnels that were dug many years ago? this how many of them get into this country and the drugs enter the same way. So they put up a fence pffft they'll dig under it!

it is not a wall but a chain link fence that will separate the u.s border from Mexico and will do nothing but cost the tax payers money. the illegal immigration issue will only be resolved when Mexico has an economy that match's our own until then they will continue to come because if you had the choice to make 10 dollars a day or make 35 witch one would you choose i know i would hop the border for that extra 25 what about you?

The fence will be partially built but the government has a sneaky way of not funding bills after they passed.

The illegal alien issues is far from resolved until 12 million illegal aliens are deported!

The Americans are going to scream and possibly resort to violence if we don't start deporting soon.

It's true. The bill passed & it's going to be more of a fence than a wall. But I don't think that's going to be the answer to the problem. It's like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Sorry, I don't know when construction is to begin. This won't solve anything, imho.

The illegal issue will be resolved when the people who hire illegal aliens are put in jail. Then people will stop hiring them and then they will stop coming. When this happens be ready to pay $10.00 for a tomato. If you use a lawn service company that will go up. The price of houses will go up. If you stay at hotels or eat out that will cost more too. So DO NOT COMPLAIN WENT THAT HAPPENS. IT IS WHAT YOU WANTED. RIGHT?!?!? Farms in California are already complaining that they do not have enough people to pick their crops. The only people who will benefit from the wall will be Mexican ladder makers.

Let's hope, but even if they do put a wall up illegals will find their way through. We need to put up electric fences!! That will keep them out for sure.
