Given all the cases of child molestation (and whether you want to accept it or not, the fact that there are still many unreported cases) how can you still blindly trust priests? Isn't blind trust what led to children being molested and abused in the first place?
Don't you love and care enough about your own children to check into the background of the person you are leaving them alone, letting them go in cars, etc with?

hummersathome - Why do you support child molestation and putting children in ahrm's way? By saying "leave it alone" you are basically saying people allowing their children to be abused is OK with you.

If you've read any history, then you know the Catholic church has done or participated in worse things than this, and never paid for it:
The Crusades. Witch hunts. The conquest of the Americas.
If nobody was prepared to call them to account for those things, nobody will demand any real accountability for the sex abuse cover-up, either. Some people will leave the church; a few politicians will make speeches; a few arrests (not nearly enough) will be made and a few men will go to prison. But the cathedrals will remain standing and no bishop will ever admit that they were wrong.
That's just how it is.

Jesus said if the blind lead the blind they both fall into the ditch,and search the scriptures for in them ye think you have eternal life but they are they that testify of me.
Any denomination of people should be searching the scriptures individually and if they do they would find that we are warned of false prophets and how to be able to know them before they are allowed to do these ungodly deeds,but wake up this is out in the public about catholic priest when the truth is that anyone that does not have a love for the truth can become the same.Want to know how I know that? Read the first chapter of Romans.

The Church is for sinners not the self righteous.
Priest are human and sin as you and I.
Currently, 4% of priest have been found involved in homosexual abuse. 2% in molestation of children. This is lower than other professions, ie teaching, coaching, day care workers etc...
I never blindly trusted any elder of the church, ever. Yet, I do hold in high regard the men who commit their lives to Christ as Christ lived His life. Remember Jesus was celibate as was Saint Paul and many men from the very beginning. Were their Judas' among them? You bet! Even Jesus pick Judas Iscariot! So the faithful must discern the actions of their elders in the church.
The Catholic Church mandates that all Priest, Bishops, Brothers, Deacons, and lay volunteers must submit to fingerprinting, background checks and attend mandatory classes on sexual abuse signs and symptoms. I just recent attended my second one (a refresher course).
Still there are GREAT priest who have remained faithful to Christ. Many, many more than are corrupted by the world.
Praise be Jesus Christ. I hope this clarifies the reality of the Roman Catholic Church and the issue you spotlighted. My five children are very safe.

As I Roman Catholic- I for one can say that I have never blindly trusted, nor have I had to. Catholics have faith in the CHURCH, not necessarily in priests or bishops.
Our CHURCH is directly guided by the Holy Spirit. Because the CHURCH is being run by humans, who are faulted, there are bound to be problems. The CHURCH is perfect, the people are not.
Why is it that non- Catholics believe that all priests are child molesters? They're not, and anyone who believes that is on some kind of which hunt.

The Catholic Church was based on fear. Hundreds of years ago, priests told people if they didn't believe, then tons of bad things would happen to them. The priests took the pagan's fear of the gods and exploited it.
Now, Catholics are taught that what the priest says is it. They are taught that God speaks to the people through the priests.
