My daughter just started kindergarten this year, she's been going for about two months now. She has had at least a runny nose since she started. She's had a sinus infection and had to take antibotics for 10 days, and three days after taking the antibotic she had white patches on the back of her throat which her Dr. said it was thrush or thrash and it was caused from taking the antibotics and she put her on the same antibotic for 10 more days. And now she's getting another runny nose and a cough. Is there anyway to strentghen her immune system or something to prevent her from getting sick so much?

i would question the fact that the dr. put her on the same antibiotic 2 times so close together he/she should know it takes time to go through your system (if you dont want to ask your dr about this call a pharmacist and ask them if this is the usual precedure or if you should get a second dr's opinion) and you dont want her to become immune to the antibiotics either. other than that the thrush is not big deal either i am 24 and still get thrush from a medication i have to take for asthma just try to have her rinse her mouth or brush her teeth when she takes the meds that should help with the thrush

Kids get sick....the best thing to do is to make sure they are getting enough vitamins and eat healthy. Schools are giant germ pits, eventually they build a good enough immune system that they don't get as sick anymore. Our first son went through similar stuff during kindergarten, now he's in grade 3 and is hardly ever sick.

A few general rules to live by, always wash hands, never overmedicate.

Healthy diet and wash the dickens out of her hands!! lol Supplement with some vitamins. You just might have a kid who is prone to infections. Another reason Day care centers are great! They help children build up natural defenses from exposure! Good luck to ya! PS get her checked out for allergies. she might have something that is triggering these episodes. And no antibiotic will help her. That's really bad in the long run!

Well, she's around other children, and face it: kindergarteners don't always have the best hygiene when they're with each other on the playground or anywhere, for that matter. She's just got a cold; she'll get through it. Once she does get over it, take her outside as much as possible. My mother always took me outdoors when I wasn't sick and fresh air really helps to keep a child healthy.

Actually, the best way to strengthen your kid's immune system is to let her get sick. Antibiotics are for YOU, to make your life easier, not for the kid! She'd get better almost as fast without them.

Most adult allergies are caused because a child's environment was too "protected", too clean. Humans bred and survived hundreds of thousands of years without all these instant fixes. All that antibiotics do is weed out the weak bugs and make the strong ones stronger. Doctors only prescribe them because if they don't, parents tend to get mad and sue them.

oddly enough going out into the world will enable her to be strenthened I asssume that you have allowed her to have her immunisations as this is the single most important medical intervention that you can allow for your children. all kids need good food and a loving family sounds like you are keen to provide these as well and that you are doing a good job most kids go through times when they are unwell but bounce back quick enough listen to your doctor and dont worry
best of luck

This all sounds very NORMAL. Kids get colds all the time. This IS how their immune system builds up. Let your kid get exposed she'll be fine. In the long run this is building up her immune system for later.

Do not give your child herbals or other crap. No one in this country is allowed to experiment on children you shouldn't either.

Anti-Oxidants as well as anti-bacterial and anti-viral foods will do wonders for your child.
Any berries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries and so forth are very very good for kids, unless of course, they are allergic. Kiwis are very good for children. Berries and Kiwis are not only good for your children physically but mentally as well. I recommend you go out and buy yourself any books on SuperFoods. There are a lot of them, you can try one by Steven G. Pratt and Kathy Matthews. SuperFoods HealthStyle.
