I am curious to know if you can get a discharge from the Air force if you come into a large some of money such as 5 Million dollars won from a state lottery. What grounds would you have to apply from?

To let you know the Air Force is cutting 40K jobs. I just need to know the grounds I should use to get a honorable discharge.

Yes they'd let you out because you'd have undue influence over your higher chain of command, and they would have no means of motivating you to follow orders. If you won or came in to such a large amount of money, make an appointment with your First Sergeant. He or she will give you the answers you need. HOWEVER, be careful because gambling laws are tricky and it may be illegal for you to purchase a lottery ticket. But if you won $5 mil, who cares if you get anything other than an honorable discharge???

That is a myth that exists in all the services. There is no automatic discharge for winning the lottery in any service. You can get a discharge for any reason under 10USC1168, which is approved by the Secretary of the Air Force, but anyone in your chain of command that did not support that could potentially block your separation.

I'd say you have no shot at a hardship discharge, that's for sure. The military right now is tough due to a shortage of people.

This person could speak with his.her Squadrom Commander and talk about it. Perhaps a deal where the service member goes into the active Reserves.

I seriously do not see this happening, though.

If you win an amount like that, you may apply for a discharge. It is normally granted within ~3 months. I don't know what the grounds are, but I've seen it done with a fellow who inherited ~$750K.

You would have to have either an honorable or dishonorable discharge. If I were you I would just sit in the 5 mill for a while bc if you don't you will end up blowing it.

it's not a given, and your Command would have to be willing to let you go. If you are in a badly needed specialty, you ain't gettin' out, no matter how rich you may be, until your EAOS.
