Do you have to have it on your person to be served? Can a bartender get into trouble if a customer doesn't have ID on them and you are serving them?
Bottom line, no ID no service?

You do not have to have it on your person, but the bartender has the right to refuse to serve anyone. If the bartender asks for your ID because he thinks you're underage and you don't have it, he is legally required to deny you service. A bartender can get in trouble (federal law) if he serves alcohol to a minor. ATF is constantly doing surveillance to monitor this type of activity and they will send in a minor to see if the employee complies with ID laws. The bartender would face a fine and/or jail time for serving alcohol to a minor.

The law doesn't address serving a person without an ID. the law addresses serving a person who is underage or intoxicated.

It is the bartender's responsibility to ensure that the customer is of age, and if he has any doubt, should ask to see ID. If the customer cannot provide ID, and the bartender is in doubt about their age, he should not serve them.

I don't know, I'm in Georgia, but I'm also underage, I just give head to get free drinks anyways, so I'm rarely ID'd unless it's a woman.
