Fasting is not just about abstaining from food and drink.
It is also abstaining from SEX and any sexual activities. This is a basic tenet of fasting.
Your fast is broken if you masturbate. You will have to repent big time for it, because breaking a fast (intentionally) is a really bad thing.
Masturbation is a sin in Islam when you do it lustfully. If you do it in order to avoid committing other sin (like to avoid sex), then its ok. But you can't be using pornography or anything like that.

There has been alot of controversy about masturbation in Islam with muslim scholars. Some say that you cannot masturbate at all in general, and others say that you can permissable to, if and only if you fear you will commit fornification and/or to release sexual tension.
Its hard to say really since the Qur'an doesn't directly mention anything about masturbation, especially during Ramadan. They just usually say to obstain from sexual activities (i.e. sexual intercourse for example)
To be on the safe side, don't do it during fasting. Do it at night if you have to. And if masturbation really counts as a sexual activity in the Qur'an, then you have to make it up by fasting an extra day after Ramadan and Eid ends! Anyway Ramadan is about controlling your habits, not taking everyday simple things for granted, and feeling empathy for the poor. Ramadan is the perfect opportunity to help smokers with their temptations as well!

At my college, we actually hold a fundraiser where we get non-Muslims to experience the fasting for 1 day. For each person who signs up and goes through with it, we donate a certain amount of food to the needy. Its not only not disrespectful, its actually very respectful and honorable of you to be so open minded enough to try it. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the ramadan fasting... Please use the fast not only as a day to practice self-discipline, but to remember the thirsty and starving millions in the world, and gain a little more appreciation for the food you are so lucky to have. :)

You should fast additional one day after Ramadhan to make up for the day that you broke the fast! And repent! Allah is Most Merciful, so pray brother!

Next year, masturbate before, then you can focus on fasting and praying.
