Christians believe (or should if they read the bible carefully) that god approves of slavery, child rape (yes, it is actually in there; the bible states clearly that any town which does not believe in God MUST be destroyed: all buildings destroyed, all men women and boys killed, and young girls to be "kept for yourselves"), and the stoning to death of people who work on Sundays. It's all in there, so Christians, before you go giving me a thumbs down, perhaps you should read your book a bit more...

First of all just to deal with some issues regarding previous answers on this topic. Mypublicident stated that jesus was an imaginary figure and unsure if he ever existed. Well regardless of any religious associations of jesus, he is also attested by historians, namely Josephus,so the fact he was a real person and lived on earth was never doubted.
Andoo states that if christians read the bible it tells them to commit child rape and destroy any town that does not believe in God. First of all, Christians regard the new testament as their teaching which has nothing of the sort in it. And what you did mention in the bible was taken out of context and has a totally different meaning.
Anyway, to answer the main question. You shouldnt really be offending anyone in the first place, not just Christians. Although you cant make law on things like that because we need freedom of speach and to be able to talk about topics like this. But on the other hand we have to sometimes be a bit more careful with what we say. If you did say something to offend a christian, dont expect any punishments from them, maybe from God though.

There is a serious misunderstanding here. Because we live in a "free country" does not mean we can "offend and mock everyone else's beliefs." That is not freedom since true freedom has to exercised responsibly and with respect for people's differences. A nation cannot long survive if the citizens treat each other in offensive and abusive ways.

If Christians take offence that is their affair. Unless it is your intention to offend, you have just asked a question. If they fail to discipline their own minds and take offence at the question then that is their failing.
The notion that one is offending God is demeaning to any religion. What's he/she/it going to do? Stamp its feet, slam doors and have a tantrum? This being is supposed to be the embodiment of knowledge and compassion, yet is going to be offended by a simple question. People tend to get offended by questions when they are either embarrassed about the subject or ignorant of the answer. So do Christians believe their deity is subject to embarrassment or ignorance?
Perhaps there should be a law banning Christians from taking offence, so that it would encourage them to practice their faith.

just to make a point here in this country you are not free to offend and mock everyone elses beliefs. If you intend to cause hurt, harm or offence then this is religous discrimination and yes you should be put down.

I'm sorry but I see people being disrespectful to Christians all the time and no one seems to give a rats a*s! They take it because we are all entitled to freedom of speech!
I can think of a certain religion that gets so ticked off, some of their followers run around like chicken's with their heads cut off if anyone so much as mutters anything that could be deemed slightly offensive! I don't see Christians killing people over an offensive comment or burning effigy's of religious symbols!

Every organised religion say they are the chosen ones! I guess there are going to be a lot of disappointed people come judgement day. Those pearly gates will be derelict, st peter on the dole and nobody at the final party.
As for did jesus ever get a hard on, surely thats a question about biology.

No...it should be against the law to make religion any part of law at all....oops we tried that and those darn christians still got in there and changed stuff. There goes the constitution.
They talk a good game about free will and choice, but they aren't that good at walking their talk. They have no concept of true freedom or 'live and let live'. Makes it rough for the rest of us. Well, the rupture...ooops I mean rapture should come soon and take them all home. Bye, bye now.

You can't legislate morality, or respect or kindness or consideration. These have to come from within. No dount we are free to believe whatever we want in this country but I think it is wiser and more beneficial to try and build bridges rather than destroy them. There is enough hate and distrust to go around without adding more. That being said at times I think no matter what you say or do someone is going to be offended. One final thought truth isn't injured by honest enquiry.

no one should offend another belief unless they want theirs offended in return. so many times there are many who judge all by a few. these few give all a bad name and this is sad because some people insult the whole group when there are only a few which causes more to get angry and the situation escalates out of control until both groups are ready to go at the fight tooth and nail.
