The media loves to magnify the 'north-south' devide sneeringly because the valued and professional trades during the 18th/19th century belonged to the North (what Manchester does today, the rest of the world does tomorrow - et cetera).
Now in the earliest 21st century, the South East holds the reigns, but it's not 1840 anymore. The trades that made Britain indeed great has become no more, and thus, leisure rules, with London staking its claim to be the grandest city on the planet as far as entertainment is concerned.
And the Londoncentric media knows this...witness the way they patronisingly 'praised' Manchester when the Labour conference was taking place.

Quiche Lorraine, anyone?

Everyone that's north of the midlands will tell you that they're far superior, in brains and personality's. I was born in the North West but have lived down south (for to long)...a number of years now. I can honestly say that northerners are evidently more friendlier and ultimately more fun, than their soft southern shandy drinking counterparts.
Still can't see the connection this question has with food & drink?
