Fresh fruits and vegetables are always good items to stock up on for healthy eating. Pay attention to the labels on packaged foods. Avoid purchasing food that has a lot of artificial flavorings, sugars, chemicals, and preservatives. The more natural you go the better it is for your health. Going organic when you can is also a good way to shop for health.

Plan your menus before you go shopping. Make lists and stick with them to help keep you from "splurge" buying. Be sure to plan for snacks and special events as well as standard meals.

Avoid buying sodas as they are never healthy for you. Stick with water and natural fruit juices. Avoid buying a lot of dairy products as too much dairy is not healthy. Avoid buying a lot of meat. A healthy diet incorporates more fruits and vegetables than meat. Also, when buying meat, avoid too much red meat and pork. Both are very hard on the digestive systems and can lead to health problems if consumed in large quantities. Have a variety of meat like fish, turkey, chicken, and lamb to keep meals from becoming boring.

Plan on preparing foods that are not pre-packaged since most "boxed meals" are full of chemicals that are harmful to your health.

Shopping for health can seem like a challenge for those who are not used to being selective in their food. There are plenty of healthy foods, drinks and snacks for the healthy shopper to select from, however they are not always on the "main shelves" and usually require you to look for them. Check out the "Green" shopping areas of your grocery. When checking the ingredients on packages, a good rule of thumb is: 1) If the list is more than 1 inch long, it's probably not good for you; 2) If you have no idea what the ingredients are, much less how to pronounce them, then it's probably not good for you.

Hope that helps.

Spend most of your time in the produce section. Come home with at least 4 kinds of fruit and 4 kinds of vegetables.
Salmon, chicken breast yogurt, brown rice orange juice are all healthy. Not too much canned food or soda pop.
Whole wheat bread and oatmeal are also very healthy.
