I recently moved to a new congregation and of course was accepted by the whole congregation. Friday night a brother at my halls wife died. It wasnt sudden but still sad. I bought a card to give to him and Ive been looking for some scriptures to include in the card. Is there any brothers and sisters out there that would be willing to share a few for help. Thank you :)

Use these two Scriptures together. It's long, but very comforting.

(Isaiah 55:10-11) For just as the pouring rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it.

(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

The dying system of things under which we are finding it more and more difficult to live is not the last thing for us to experience. It is not all there is to it for us. Earth will cease to be a place for continual human suffering. The darkening night that now enshrouds all the earth with a deadly pall is about to be dispelled. The new day that must surely follow the night is about to break for all the earth to become a place of joyous living for the whole human family. All of this is not a matter of chance, not a matter of accident, not even a matter of some human scientific breakthrough. Someone higher than man has purposed it.

Psalms 90: 2-4. Before the mountains themselves were born,
Or you proceeded to bring forth as with labor pains the earth and the productive land,
Even from time indefinite to time indefinite you are God.
3 You make mortal man go back to crushed matter,
And you say: “GO back, YOU sons of men.”
4 For a thousand years are in your eyes but as yesterday when it is past,
And as a watch during the night.

Death certainly is a serious issue and it often gets us thinking of our immortality and How we should deal with others greiving. I would suggest we be very careful when dealing with this issue, and perhaps maybe we should look upon our own immortality for a moment. Do we have the assurance of salvation? how do you know? let me explain by asking you a few questions.

Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are guilty of breking three of the Ten Commandments. If God Judged you by this standard, would you be innocent or guilty? the BIBle says we would all be guilty and therefore end up in hell. but God did something wonderful for us. He sent His Son to take our punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death.
Your own so-called “goodness” can’t get you into heaven any more than mine could. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He is the "Door," the only "mediator." There is salvation in no other name, so pray something like this: "Dear God, I repent of all of my sins (confess them). This day I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me and grant me your gift of everlasting life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."
