The same kind of thinking that says that American children are good and African children are bad because a million American children don't starve to death every year and a million African children do.

It is sad but true, a catastrophe will convert more people than anything else. All the preaching, testifying, sowing of the seed, and sowing the seed pale in comparison to a disaster of any kind. I do not say this to mock Christianity or belittle my God, because I am a Christian who does all the above. On 9/11 and Katrina, there were more people converted than a hundred years of preaching.

In all honesty, if you were in that situation, wouldn't you wish to be saved?
When someone has been through a tramatic experience, they turn to God to explain how and why that had happened to them. Their focus is on themselves and their families, not to the others suffering around them. It isn't clear thinking, yes, but it's how the human mind works.

Because they called upon God and He saved them...why shouldn't they SAY it?
Maybe the other people didn't call on God...

because they were at the right spot at the right time to be saved and rather than just say " it was the luck of the draw my number wasn't up " the give the credit to a HIGHER POWER in order to ease their minds and consciouses.
