...and holds the title 'Defender of the Faith'.
Does a similar position exist in the US and if so who is it?

The title "Defender of the Faith" was bestowed by the Pope. It has nothing to do with the reigning monarch being head of the Church of England.

In the USA, we do not have truly religious people. We have all kinds of different fanatics running around bumping into each other. If we tried to create a Secretary of Religion, they would probably all fight each other to the death.

Hey! wanna give it a try? ;-)

For Christianity, the head of the church is Jesus.

That's another way to prove the Catholic church is a non-Christian cult, because they claim the Pope is the head of their church, not Jesus.

No such thing existed until George W. Bush. He thinks he is defender of the faith.
