"It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. "We" must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid."

Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?

Well if I understood what you really meant, I could answer a lot more easily. All I see are big words put together to make you sound like you are intelligent.

Your question is very loaded and really doesnt mean a lot when you analyse it. What are you really trying to say? Are you saying that we are all sheep that follow the common theme that the media will present to us on a regular basis? No, we are not all sheep. Why do you think there are so many activists out there trying to change the opinions of the common theme. Stupidity really is your interpretation on how you view peoples actions. People do and say things for totally different reasons. You cant categorise people as being stupid just because you may or may not agree with what they say or do. What is stupid for one person, is common sense to another. Some people are sheep, but I think the majority of us are not. I think in the workplace, however, we do tend to do as we are told even if we dont agree, simply because we could lose our job. But that would change if people stuck together and as a group. Being an individual on your own trying to change things is a near impossible task. You need support, and there are very few people out there who will risk everything to "prove a point"

I still dont understand exactly what you are trying to say and I am an intelligent person. What point are you exactly trying to make?

The media controls more than you would really want.

From the type of clothes, to food, to entertainment, it is all calculated on numbers.
This question and answer forum even controls which person can be out here.

If you purchase an item just because the television says it destroys dirt, well then you are gullible.
Advertisers count on it.

The news can even present a story as despicable or they can skew it to their purpose. One major news carrier had a story about a foreign leader and the people that hate him. There were 4 people interviewed. It could have been any country. They just decided to promote this country as the evil.

I for one try not to succumb to the bombardment of media. We watch what we purchase and discern advertisements.
Lets face it, an 18 year old selling wrinkle cream is a stretch and an 18 year old man who hardly has beard stubble promoting a new fantastic razor that shave so close, you have baby skin.
Right.

I do agree to an extent but stupidity is not painful, it just empties your pocketbook.

Agree !!
Why ? Because people trust what the news reports way to much, and do not question at all what is reported. They need to learn to not take what is reported fully as the truth and learn to check the facts with other sources, such as the Internet.
Way to much trust is put into what the major news channels report, without checking the facts. Its the dumbing down of America in my opinion. Guess the Brain (Pinkie and the Brain cartoon) is loose and doing well...LOL

Agree, we are becoming a controlled society without even knowing it. We are beginning to stop thinking for ourselves, with the availibility of answers on the television and interent, and we don't even want to think anymore, preferring to get lost in the fantasies in movies and video games. I see so many people just going along with what the government, etc, says just because they're in-charge, not because they actually agree.

AGREE!!!! This is a no brainer as the stupid and fearful are easy to control. Most ppl I know much prefer to be spoon-fed than to have to hunt for their own knowledge. To have to look for it, to own it, to act upon it takes work and stupidity is after all just a form of mental laziness.

Yes.
The world around us didnt get nicer, just because it did in the U.S.
People in the U.S. have no idea what hardships our forefathers went thru to get us to the free, and peacefull nation that we are.
They simply cant comprehend other humans being as vicious and dangerous as they are, because they are not personally exposed to it, and are way to lazy to take the time to spend an hour of their time to get on the net and learn.
We have access to more raw information then anybody else on the planet, yet most refuse to use it.

Sometimes, when we see through the tricks, we play along anyway. If someone thinks they have the upper hand, they're more likely to let their guard down. That's where they lose control. Now who's ignorant?

Agree.

Christians are usually portrayed as wild-eyed fanatics who go along without questioning. Non-Christians are usually portrayed as remorseless, conniving purveyors of evil with no redeeming qualities. Both points-of-view are wrong...
