If the ground beef has been well sealed with heavy duty wraps and/or freezer-safe bags, it can keep indefinitely, but it will lose quality over time. The beef will retain its quality if used within three to four months of freezing.

Actually... indefinitly is the wrong answer.
If packaged in foil or a zip lock freezer bag, Frozen ground beef will maintain peak freshness for a little more than 2 months.
If the meat is vacuum packaged, (a home system is adequate for this), that same meat will last for a year or more.
Your freezer temp as well as other variables will affect the life too.

If it has been sealed well, they usually recommend it to be used within a year. Lately, (and it is probably the beef companies) suggest 6 months. As long as it doesn't have freezer burn or you haven't lost electricity, up to a year should be fine.

When meat is frozen it is the quality of the wrapping that determines how long the meat will be edible. the meat is less than tasty when it is freezer burned. freezer burn is very noticeable and dries the meat out and you would not want to eat it... other than that if wrapped in a high quality freezer bag it will last a very long time
