There is no question that IBS plus gas can reek havoc on your whole body.
Gas can be very painful and leave one bloated and even with heartburn but I am not sure what you describe is from your IBS unless the gas is causing you to have some acid reflux which can feel like its in your upper back.

The best way to find out would be to get your bowels moving either with a natural fiber laxative or an enema.
I have IBS-D and I know how gas can make one feel really sick.

I have IBS and have never had gas pain that high in my back. From what you are describing it sounds more like a lung thing as it is related to deep breaths and coughing. Have you had a cold recently that could have become bronchitis?

You might also want to try taking fiber supplements that do not contain psyllium. Oat bran fiber is one that is really gentle on your system. I find that fiber is the best thing for my IBS and taking it regularly helps alleviate a lot of my symptoms.

Hi
IBS is a really uncomfortable condition, and excess gas is normal. The bowel is on the left hand side of your lower stomach, and any pain higher up needs further investigation, as you should not have pain that high up, not with IBS any way.

I have posted some links for you to check out

Insist your doctor does further investigations.

Good luck

yes. gas can absolutely cause pains in that area. about 1 year ago i had my gall bladder removed by a laparoscopy procedure and in order to do it they had to fill me up with air. the nurses encouraged me to try and let the air out over the next day as i was healing and they also advised me i would be feeling some pain around my shoulders due to the gas

Yes. Try lying on your stomach for 20 minutes with your butt elevated (put a pillow under it ).
