I LOVE my Toyota Rav-4 - it's not that expensive, Toyota quality is well known, Toyotas hold their value, when Toyotas need a repair part you won't have to get a 2nd mortgage, new rav4s have 3rd row seats, rav4 are GREAT on gas, rav4s look great!, the list goes on and on about why I love my car! :) I've been in a mercedes ml320... really I did not see anything that fancy on the inside for a mercedes.

Mercedes is a nice car however the cost of repairs on them can be a bit steep. I have owned a few many years ago. I have owned American made SUV's too and I don't have a whole lot of positive to say about them either. For one thing they are usually gas guzzlers, and secondly the American made engines often start having problems after 70,000 miles after the warranty is up. You can't beat a Honda or Toyota SUV however they are relying on their name recognition to get top dollar. In my opinion the Hyundai Tuscon is the best thing on the market for overall quality, affordability, efficiency. Check out J.D. Powers and Edmunds.com for ratings on this vehicle. With the cost of gas nowadays fuel economy should be your foremost consideration.

We just bought an Expidition and love it. It has the third row seating for when friends go along and a bigger cargo area for getting things in. Ours is a 2006 and it was around $30k but we had a lot of extra put on it as well and it is 4x4. No matter what do some research. The Honda CVR is a good one too and good gas mileage as well.

Get one of those Ford Hybrids, the escape. Or get something like a really fuel efficient stationwagon. If I could go out an buy a new car right now it would be a volvo staionwagon. They're beautiful, safe, roomy, practical, and best of all, Swedish.

The absolute best SUV in this price range is the Lexus RX 330. I had one, and traded it in with over 171,000 miles (still drove like brand new - no mechanical problems) for an Infinity. I want to go back to my Lexus SUV asap.
