Beef jerky is reasonably healthy for you basically because lean meat is chosen and/or because the fat of the meat is removed before processing. This is done primarily in order to make the finished product last a long time (minimal fat ensures that the finished product will not go rancid). Since it's beef:fat ratio is high, beef jerky is a great source of protein, but without the carbs. Beef Jerky is low in fat(2.5 grams per serving) so it will not hinder any weight loss or weight maintaining efforts. Beef Jerky also contains nutrients such as zinc, protein, and iron. On the flip side, it is a little high in salt, however, so you still have to eat it in moderation.

It's good quality, lean beef. It has low carbs, and high protein. It's filling without being "junk" food.
