On Yahoo!Answers I find certain questions being asked repeatedly which is simply a reflection of new people participating. A couple of common question amounts to "How do I lose weight," or more specifically, "How do I lose abdominal fat?" I have gotten very positive responses from my answers when I paused to reply (and now beginning to get "It works!" emails that are very gratifying. I like helping people)... so have recently decided to put a good solid answer on my Yahoo!360 Blog (September 10) that I can point people to. These are my thoughts as a physician and athlete.
Don't target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into "starvation mode" and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful.
There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.
To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.
For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.
Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.
There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.
If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

You can try a hypnotic routine, learning it from a book or, preferably, with the aid of a trained professional. You will be encouraged to keep eating, as long as your eating habits are good. The only drawback of the hypnotic system is that weight issues often have to do with emotional problems. If that is your case, some problems might surface which you will have to deal with to address the need of losing weight. If you are not ready for it, do not try hypnosis. On the other hand, if you have no emotional needs associated with weight, if your weight is caused by glands issues or something, then you will be able to quickly, and painlessly lose weight. If you want to work on yourself, a good start may be Hypnosis for Beginners by William Hewitt. It is the best option to consult an expert first though. Good Luck.

Two ways:
1) Exercise at least 40 minutes every day, including 25 min of running or other cardiovascular workout (check with your doctor)
Do 20 min of yoga or Tai Chi exercises.
2) Change your diet to a mostly vegetarian diet including all kinds of fruits and vegetables, lean fish and chicken breast, rice and beans, and no junk food or coca cola.
You can pretty much eat as many radishes and celery sticks as you want, and lots of apples, plums and kiwi fruits are always good. Blueberries and strawberries are delicious and good for you , so use them for dessert.
Drink lots of water and green tea.
There are all different versions of these diet and exercise tips but they all amount to the same thing--eat less, eat healthier
and exercise on a regular basis.

Hmm first of all BAD IDEA. Losing too much weight too fast is not healthy. You really should only lose at most 2 1/2 lbs a week. That said if you want to lose weight and still eat the things you love you should look into WeightWatcher. I lost 55lbs in about 1 year and kept it for 3 years now and going. Wish you luck.

Haha! Well, you don't have to stop eating... that is called anerexia. You just have to eat more healthy! Stop those weekly visits to MDs girl!
But if you really want to lose weight and keep it off, hit the gym. All you need is 30minutes of running or movement (ie. dance classes) and them maybe 10 to 30 minutes ab work-out. Here is what I do... I have lost 20 pounds and keep it off.
Three times a week I go to the gym and this is what I do:
-10-20 minutes on the tredmill or bike.
-maybe some weigh training for 30mins... but take it easy, ask a gym instructor about what you want to do and what areas of your body you want to target and he/she will be glad to help you (do not feel embarrassed, they do it every day)
-then abs... I do 20x4 straight sit-ups on a yoga ball, then 30x3 twist sit-ups on a yoga ball, then 10x4 leg drops (lay on back, put legs in air, drop legs without touching the ground, then back up), and perhaps some others.
Remember, you can't just do ab workouts to lose weight, you have to do cardio... ie. running. That it what really takes the weight off and burns that useless fat. Just remember that you can still eat, just think of what is better for you... choose wholegrains instead of white breads, pasta and rice. They don't taste much different. Just stop the junkfood, you can treat yourself once a week. And if you really are a heavy junkfood eater, limit yourself to one thing a day... ie. one chocolate bar. Eventually you will find things you like that are healthier. I suggest trying a healthfood store... not for the healthfoods... for their snackfoods... if you love junkfood you can find much healthier 'junkfood' at healthstores... And try to get your veggies and fruits in everyday.
Only you can make the right choices when it comes to what you eat.

How rapid are we speakme? "Losing weight rapid," may also be very unsafe. In my revel in, and nearly all of men and women could consider this, there is not any miracle healing. When men and women say consuming healthful and endeavor, they are speakme the reality. Start out with small steps if all of a sudden replacing your culture isn't for you. Even simply reducing out plenty of soda, or rapid meals intake is helping. Losing weight the RIGHT method takes attempt, I'm sorry to disappoint you.
