Yes. Think of your muscles and tendons like they are rubber bands. They will work better if they are stretched and warmed up before you use them. If you don't warm up properly, you may injure your tendons, etc. The cool down part is not as important as the warm up, but it may help to ease soreness later.

Warm-ups and cool-downs are needed for any exercise. If you start weight lifting without the proper warm up, you could tear muscles. The cool down issues is the same as for aerobics.

Recently I watched a show that conducted research into warm ups and cool downs. The only conclusive data that they got was, it is absolutely necessary to stretch after all forms of exercise to stop the build up of lactic acid in your muscles. Lactic acid actually can destroy all that hard work you do in the gym.

They are needed for any form of exercise. If you don't warm up and cool down your muscles, you can get a variety of aches, pains, and pulled muscles.

YES - they are needed.
Injuries occur most often because people don't warm up & cool down. Take the extra five minutes and STRECH!
