Contrary to a common held misconception religion doesn't cause all wars. Most wars is about seizing someone Else's land or territory. Sometimes religion is used to try and justify it and to try and get people interested in fighting. i.e. They have violated ourr God or God will reward you if you fight for ou country. Most people who claim religion is the cause of all war tend to ignore the non religious wars such as Hitler. He was about stealing other people's land. Also how then do they explain the communists who not only waged war in many countries but slew millions of their own and they are officially atheistic. Alot of people don' think it through. I also agree in some case war encourages atheism. But not always.

War probably encourages a belief in God in some instances. Why would an athiest encourage war, are u talking war of religions or just war in general?

War = atheism. Look at the Crusades, the conflicts between Isreal and Palestine, conflicts and violence in Ireland between Protestants and Catholics, the Shi'ite - Sunni conflicts, heck read any of the old testament, it's filled with wars brought about by commands from "God". One might also conclude that the current war in Iraq is based more on religion that regime change... I don't want to be involved in any religion that preaches peace through war.

Desire for power or resources leads to war. Every war, religious or otherwise, has boiled down to someone wanting control or resources.

Neither. Atheists don't tend to start wars - it doesn't help the species, and they don't have extremely deeply held religious values that other people can offend, which is what starts most wars.
