Ramadan is the holy month that Muslims celebrate. It is part of the five pillars of faith:
1. there is no other god but Allah.
2. pray five times daily
3. fast in the month of Ramadan
4. give alms to the poor
5. if possible, travel to meca once in a lifetime

about fasting during Ramadan

Fasting (Sawm)

"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may learn self-restraint. Fast for a fixed number of days....Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, and clear signs for guidance and judgment between right and wrong. So every one of you who is present at home during that month should spend it in fasting....Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties. He wants you to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance you shall be grateful" (Qur'an 2:183-185).

What the prayers seek to do five times a day, fasting in the month of Ramadan (9th month of the lunar year) does once a year. During this month, Muslims do not eat anything nor drink even a drop of water during the daylight hours. Each and every moment during the fast, we suppress our desires and remember Allah alone. This places in us a consciousness of duty and a spirit of patience that helps strengthen faith in Allah. Discipline and hardship during this month bring us face to face with the realities of life and the suffering of so many throughout the year. The whole month is filled with increased devotion, piety, and purity of mind, soul and body.

RAMADAN IS A HOLY MOTH BESTOWED UPON THE MUSLIMS FROM THEIR GOD (ALLAH). IN THE MONTH OF RAMADAN THE MUSLIM FAST JUST AS THE CHRISTIANS FAST IN THEIR HOLY TIME BUT THE FASTING OF THE MUSLIMS IS A BIT DIFFERENT. FROM THE TIME THE SUN RISES THE MUSLIMS DONT EAT ANY THING TILL THE SUNSET. THAT IS, MUSLIMS CAN EAT OR DRINK AFTER THE SUNSET AND BEFORE THE SUNRISE (all evening and night) BUT NOT ELSE THAN THESE TIMES.
THE RAMADAN WAS ORDERED FROM ALLAH (GOD) BECAUSE GOD (ALLAH) WANTED THE RICH PEOPLE TO THINK WHAT THE POOR FEEL WHEN THEY STAY HUNGRY FOR ALL DAY LONG! SO THE RICH REALIZE THE HUNGER AND HELP THE POOR. IN THIS MONTH EVERYBODY HAS TO PAY AN AMOUNT OF MONEY TO THE POOR, WHICH HELPS THE POOR TO HAVE A GOOD LIVING. RAMADAN HELPS TO FINISH POVERTY AND MAKES THE SOCIETY ECONOMICALLY BETTER.
RAMAZAN IS A BLESSING FROM GOD AND IN THIS MONTH THE DEVIL IS CAGED AND BLESSINGS ARE SPLIT ALL OVER THE WORLD.

it's a holy month
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. It is during this month that Muslims observe the Fast of Ramadan. Lasting for the entire month, Muslims fast during the daylight hours and in the evening eat small meals and visit with friends and family. It is a time of worship and contemplation

non Ramadan is not a holiday, it's a month which all Muslims around the world fast for a certain periode during the day (from the dawn till the sun set) then they eat from the sun set till the dawn...and fasting here not only for your stomach but also for your eyes from seeing bad things, tangue from saying bad things and u should try to be close to god and increase your prayers and u should also try to do good things as helping poor people, give a donation for an orphans house and so on...happy Ramadan...

It's the 9th month, a holy month in the Muslim calendar in which people have the opportunity to purify themselves (by fasting, from sun rise to sun set - they can eat and drink after after sunset- refraining from sexual activities, from drugs (including alcohol), praying 5 x a day). It's basically a time to cleanse physically, mentally and spiritually and try to come closer to God than the rest of the year. But it's also to remind muslims how the poor/the hungry have to live, and to allow muslims to develop more compassion.
