Cairns by nature are hyper!!!
Pugs are excellent lil' dogs. Mellow, yet will be playful when ya' Cairn is in the mood.
Beware of getting a Pug at this present time...Due to popularity...Over breeding!!!
I've owned 2 pugs in the past. Both came from the Humane Society!!! Most Humane Societies have an adjustment period, like 2 weeks (???)...Take the Pug home, see how the interaction goes...Do NOT forget ya' Cairn will try to be dominate in the beginning!!!
Add fact of good gig ya' doing by adopting...Verses buying!!!

Honestly, make a visit to a local animal shelter or rescue and find an older dog with a known temperment. Let her pick out a pal. If you get a puppy you have no idea as to what it will turn out like. But a good shelter will help you make the perfect match. Start with Petfinder.com.

Terriers in general suffer from separation anxiety, and another dog may keep her busy, but I doubt it will relax her. Look up dogs that you like and look at the personality traits and get a more relaxed dog - a adult bichon is a smaller dog that has a somewhat relaxed but still playful personality. Good luck!

I agree with Em, adopting a dog is much better than buying one and all different types of breeds have different personalities so by letting oyur dog have a choice it would be like your forcing a friend of her :) I'd also ask your vet b/c they should know your dog and other breeds well enough to make a good suggestion :)
Good luck = ]

Go to the local shelter or pound, ask if you can bring her with you to meet some potential housemates.
Make sure both dogs are spayed/neutered. Why do you say she is lonely? They crave human companionship, so try doing more with her.
Good luck

We have a 1 year old Lab, recently got her a puppy sized fuzzy squeak toy to keep her from chewing up stuff.
She carries it around , plays with it, cleans it, protects it like it's her own puppy. It never leaves her side and she is much happier.
