I got into a pretty bad accident during the summer and then I dropped 10 pounds over those two months. Is that normal, or should I see someone about that?

Seeing someone mostly depends on a couple things....

Are you still loosing weight or below a weight that's healthy for your age/height? Are you still not eating regularly?

Equally important, are you experiencing flashbacks and anxiety about the accident? Are you avoiding certain situations to avoid triggering memories of the accident or aftermath? Are you having nightmares?

If yes to any of these, you may be experiencing post-trauma. It's much better to work post-trauma distress thru with a licensed, experienced therapist shortly after the event than to let it continue or worse learn to simply block it out instead of really processing the experience - that can result in it coming back to bite you big time in the future.

If none of these apply and you are no longer inexplicably loosing weight, I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe check in with your doc to make sure your health is good if you have a concern there.

Gaining and losing weight is often closely associated with emotional experiences. So, I would say this is almost a generic symptom of some kind, of a post traumatic disorder. That is just my view of course. A professional therapist is more qualified to judge. Good Luck.

Hi yes it is normal but you have to watch you dont lose anymore weight. I would go to the doctors and see if he can give you something for it. But it is known to do this. I once knew a girl who lost a lot of weight due to a traumativ incident.

I believe it is normal. Both my mother and my sister lost weight dramatically after they were involved in car accidents.

Plan active dates using your hubby, such as bowling as well as golfing, instead of dinner and also a movie.

Bring it up with your normal doctor during a check up. Probably it is just stress, but it can't hurt to be careful.

Glad you are doing okay now. :-)

When buying your kids from school, get free from the car and greet them with a hug instead of waiting inside car curbside.
