I have hair that is fairly thick, black and tends to curl up...into a very puffy fro like thing
Today I got a haircut, and the stylist layered my hair. Its is very puffy, and its managed to get knotted already, Do you guys have any ideas as to how I can make my hair look curly, but a little more relaxed? (Please keep in mind i have a limited budget!)
Thanks

Layering will make it look more puffy, your stylist should have known that layering is to add volume, which you don't need.
If it is long enough to pull back, try this: wash hair, with conditioner on hair try to work through any tangles with a pick comb. Rinse with hot water. Use gel or mousse of your choice. Pull hair back into a pony tail for about 1/2 hour. this should calm it down a little. Then let it airdry free.

You should really go back to the hair dressers or even go to another hair dressers and ask them for advice..its hard to manage hair without someone putting a style in it that makes it even harder to control!..

try texturizing in your heavier sections of hais, then apply a light styling agent[mousse, light gel],to bring out the curl but keep volume down.,you might try this before the texurizing.
