try creative speakers i have also creative inspire 7.1 and its very good.u can buy 4.1 or 2.0 speaker system.

I have been hearing a lot of good things about Pioneer speakers lately and they don't cost a lot of money.

Altec Lansing really good value for money- great bass. good vocals.
Though it's mainly for computers some can be use for TVs.

I would bring some DVDs/ CDs with low basses and vocals (LOTR,chicago) to test the speakers out.

it depend upon the person who hears it , i like creative for computers and JBL for hometheatres.

check yamaha hometheatre in a box too

don't get bose at any cost. get some good jbl's and a nice subwoofer (which is the key).
