Literal interpretation only applies to verses like --If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. -- Lev.20:13
However it does not apply to verse like Deuteronomy
23:1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
Christians are cherry picker when it comes to the Bible.

Because some either don't believe in personal revelation (answers to prayers) and some don't know how to listen to it. So while it IS an important element, some people think ALL they have to rely on is the written word and what it really means.

its important to consider:
the Bible is true in the sense of the literature, in the sense claimed... if it is claiming literally true then it is...
the Bible is perfectly inspired and God breathed in the original manuscripts and we substantially have them
