It is understandable that believers are here to learn from each other. But atheists who do not believe in religion and in God, why are you here? In Religion & Spirituality Section? Please let me know your purposes?

First question: To teach you about atheism.
Second question: We are here for the same reason you might go to the mythology section although you don't believe in Zeus. To discuss mythology.

Because religion affects society, and society affects us all. Whether someone is a believer or not, what someone believes is a big part of life, including for us. Because we are curious as to what makes believers tick. Same as you all wonder how we can't believe, we are curious as to how you can. In the case of prejudiced people, "know they enemy"...who wouldn't feel the need to know what people against them are up to? And probably a million other reasons any individual could have.

Any why would believers be here on interest in each others opposing views? Most here don't seem to like opposing views to what they believe...

Hater. You got a problem?
Your friends are not here to learn about religion. If they're religious, what more do they need to know about religion? Do you want me to tell you the real purpose all those "religous people" are here? They're trying to convince as many people as possible to convert to their religion. They're not here to learn anything.

Why am I here? Oh, I'm just chillin'. For some reason I find the religion and spirituality section very appealing.

Two fold -- one, it is a scholarly field. I do not need to believe in it to have an interest in the conversation. I do not believe that Communism is a good form of government, but that does not prevent me from discussing communism as a theory of political governance -- and in fact, I can find the things in it that are worth keeping and use them without using the whole thing.

Neither you nor I believe that werewolves are real, but yet, some of my favorite religious discussions revolve around the mythology presented in the role playing game, "Werewolf: the Apocalypse."

Second -- If I can help guide one believer to question his or her faith, because of his or her own thought based on information I provide, then I believe I have done something positive for the future of humanity. I consider religion to be the greatest threat humanity faces in its struggle to survive this difficult phase of its development.

To explain to you that you're wrong.

It's like if there were a section on phrenology. Wouldn't you feel some compulsion to tell them that it is all a bunch of hooey?. Or if they had religion divided into sections and you saw a question on the hinduism section asking how to attain one with the godhood. If you saw that consistently enough, I bet you would feel an urge to respond that it's impossible. Come on... you know you would....

Atheistism is a form of spirituality in of itself. It is a legitiment form of religious thought. I would assume that a forum like this wouldn't be segregated by religious belief. All forms of religion and spirituality are equal. Just because one person's involved a diety or dieties doesn't make it 'more equal' than one that does not.

I have learned a lot in my life from listening to the debate of ethical people, some of whom were religious. It makes sense that I pay attention to the beliefs of people with whom I don't agree. The only true barrier to learning is contempt prior to investigation.

I am not an atheist, I'm a Deist. Even though I'm not a Christian, I still have questions to ask and wisdom to share.

Why are theists not in the mythology section? Just because you believe the mythology does not make less of a mythology.

To ask questions of the Faithful. I don't understand the nature of Faith, and I don't think I ever will. The best I can do as far as grasping it is to call it an act of self-delusion.
