The punishment would depend on the crime. You've asked alot of questions pertaining to crime and punishment. Are you planning a career in Law Enforcement, working on a report or planning on committing a crime. Hey I had to ask.

The person will not be arrested or found, From crimes not reported to those where people were never found.
Of those that are arrested, they will get probation.

If it's a minor issue like speeding you get fined
If it's a relatively minor issue like theft you could go to prison
If you rob thousands of their pension, if you tarnsfer thousands of jobs to India or Far East or if you con the country to go to war and get troops killed you become either president or a CEO
