It depends where you go. Starbucks gets everywhere - which is a good thing if you're wanting a wifi connection, and it's certainly all over South East Asia.
But generally, in the major cities throughout Asia - Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Singapore, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi etc, you will always be able to find somewhere with wifi. You'll have less luck in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam than other countries.

Hong Kong and Singapore have the widest coverage around. Though you should be able to get access in most of the major cities around. You will usually have to buy credits for use in many of these countries, though I know Singapore has many free access points around the island. So if you are looking for wifi access, plan your trips to cover the main tourist cities, you should be happy then.

Most nice hotels in Asia have free Wifi for the guests. You just sit in their lobby and log on - I do it all the time - even if you are not a guest there. Starbucks are everywhere too and they have WiFi. Also - Many places like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia etc. have internet cafes everywhere and it costs pennies per minute to log on and check emails etc.

If you are planning to visit Asia purely on the basis of wifi coverage then you are probably very sad. you won't top Singapore or Hong Kong - but there are also lots of other beautiful and fascinating places without wifi - but could you possibly be parted from your keyboard from long enough, I wonder @:)

Hong Kong, Singapore, S. Korea, Japan, Thailand. Some areas of Kuala Lumpur too. But you'll be missing all the best parts if those are the only places you go.
