Hey, your teacher must be a sadist! no school kid [ no offence]could be expected to make filo! Everybody buys filo from the frozen section of the supermarket. It is a laborious and skilled occupation. Today it is done by machines.Tell your teacher that you have researched filo pastry and that it is an ancient and superceded skill that has been made redundant by modern bakery technology. Tell her to get over it and move on!!!

Making Filo Pastry Dough, for all intents and purposes, is expert level cooking. As others have suggested, buy it in the frozen section at your grocery story (also spelled phyllo). Let it thaw COMPLETELY before unrolling and peel sheets apart carefully (sheets are paper thin) then brush each lightly with melted butter for ease in working with the dough (if you don't have a pastry brush, a soft paintbrush works just as well). Do not let phyllo dough dry out while you are working with it as it will get brittle.

Absolutely - go buy it at the store. It takes forever to make. It's spelled phyllo and comes in rolls of very thin sheets that crumble and break if you are not careful with them. For whatever pastry you make, be sure to keep the phyllo moist, but not too wet. You don't want it crumbling, but you don't want to bust holes in it either from it getting soggy. Most recipes require you to brush each sheet lightly with butter or olive oil. DO IT! Don't skip that step, or you will be sorry.

Go to the freezer section of your store and buy it. Whenever I have seen a recipe using it on TV they have purchased it. Even Emerill.

Seriously: go to the store & buy it... simple! It's hard to make and it's all done in the freezer section at the supermarket... they are separated in sheets by wax paper -- super convenient... I'm telling you, don't make it.
