~get an curling iron to straighten your hair, don't
use it all the time because it breaks off your hair
~maybe put a little highlight in it nothing extreme or get someone to do it or a rinse, but if
you put it in wrong your hair will come out
~or just get one of your friends or someone you know to show you a simple style to do

Get a consultation at a salon, they often do it for free. Or read some haristyle magazines or purchase InStyle, Flare (in Canada), Vogue, Elle, or Allure to get hairstyle ideas.
This could be because of the environment. Do you live in a large, polluted city?
Don't use a straightener regularly because all that excess heat destroys the hair.
Hair gel gets white and flaky when it dries up and it looks really bad if you use too much. Hair wax is better because it doesn't cause those flaky bits but it'll look greasy if you use too much.
Try a deep conditioner to get rid of the frizz. Apply a deep conditioner to your hair and pay particular attention to the ends, not the roots. Put a shower cap and leave it in for 20 minutes then rinse. Do this every month. If that dosen't work, just get a haircut ecause that'll get rid of most of it.

If you dont like hairgel, try mousse-it gives similar hold and can hardly tell youve got it in (it doesnt make your hair crunchy unless you use too much). If you have naturally curly/wavy hair like me, id say scrunch some mousse in after your shower (dont comb your hair with a comb, just finger-comb it a bit) and spray some hair spray on it. Blowdry your hair with a diffuser and with your head upside down, scrunching the curls. Finish with some more hair spray.
If you want it straight, put in some smoothing milk (i use garnier fructis instant smoothing and frizz control, about $4) and blow dry with a round brush. After its completely dry, straight iron it. If your hair is like mine, the frizz will not go away without the straight iron!
