well first off i just want to say congrats on getting your first tattoo and I'm sure you are nervous, and that's normal I'm going to tell ya something and anyone in the tattoo world will tell you the worst part of getting your first tat is the anticipation!!! after you sit down and the artist gets started your gonna see its not at all as bad as you thought it would be, yes some spots will hurt a little worse than others, and you will see its hard to stop after you get your first they are very addictive man! and as far as tat time id say around 2hours to 2 1/2 all depends on the artist some work faster than others ive got at least 30hours on myself so i can judge tat time pretty good just make sure you don't settle for a flash tattoo make it a one of a kind! you don't want the same tat that a hundred other people have, and on your tattoo choice i think its pretty cool!!

If you're determind to get a tattoo done regardless of advice to the contrary for Heavens sake don't get name tattooed on. with a 1 in 3 divorce rate the next wife never looks at the tattoo thinking 'How cute'. Football teams come and go. Think what reflects your character and tastes.
Whatever you get will be with you when you're old and wrinkly. Imagine trying to explain to a 3 year old daughter / grandaughter why you have a picture of a naked woman with legs akimbo on you arm.
Also think about employment prospects, I have NEVER employed someone in a public facing job with a tattoo.

I got my first & only tattoo at the age of 35.
I would say have it somewhere that is easily covered.
Your gonna have it for life so make sure that it is something that you would like to take to the grave with you.
I had the names of my 3 sons tattooed around my bicep.
My wife says I shouldn't have her name tattooed in case I leave her,Ithink it's more the case of she may leave me!LOL

A couple hours- depends on the artist and the final design you choose. Upper arms are good if you do have anal retentive employers where you have to cover them - easy to cover with a sleeve.
Don't listen to the naysayers. Tattoos are a great form of personal expression. You just have to put thought in to it and have it mean something to you.

Don't do it - it will really "date" you. It's going out of style, and in a few years time kids will be taking the piss. Whereas us old hippies and punks can change our clothes and hair so you'd never know, you'll be stuck forever in the noughties. Every other fashion you can move on from when you're ready, but tattoos fix you forever and you're stuck.

Im not gonna say dont do it cuz its your body and obviously you've already made the decision..... but i will say that you should think hard about who you are and what you want your tat to reflect..... i got my first one in january a couple of months after my 18th bday and after serious consideration i chose to go with the scorpion symbol with a halo around the top.... the halo is baby blue and the tail at the end of the symbol is red.... i figured that no matter how old i get, im always gonna be that, part angel, part demon and that's how i chose to represent it... plus its original, i strongly recommend u design your own....... well good luck!!!!!

I used to think tattoo's were cool, and really wanted one but couldn't make up my mind what to get. well years have gone by and I'm glad I never got one because they are no longer a sign of rebellion more a sign of conformity, every loser has one, why don't you get one of a little puppy?

Dude, a tattoo has to be a reflection of who you are. I could never get one, because I don't know who I am deep inside. Don't just get one on a whim, you'll regret it.

it would take a couple of hours. if its too painful then they will probably do the outline and you would go back to get it coloured. Make sure that you are definately decided on the design. it costs a lot of money for laser removal. once you have decided on a design (i know this sounds silly but...) draw it onto your arm to the exact scale, and walk around for a couple of days to make sure that its exactly what you want. it is best to choose your own design (even if it is based on another design) so that you dont bump into someone with the same.
