My kitten age 5 months has mild herpes in the corner of his eyes. He is not in any dis comfort. I was told Lysine is good to give for this desease.

I gave him 250 mg for one day and the next day the same. That night he had very bad loose stools.

I quit giving it to him and thought I would ask the group about this.

I'm not sure if that was the problem or the new Purina Kitten food I bought at the same time.

Today he is fine and is eating the Purina food with no problem.

I still have a hunch it was the Lysine. Help.

Lysine is a good supplement for the herpes according to Dr. Jean Hovfe in my natural care book. Another cat I know of had a problem with some diarrhea and whether the lysine was the cause could not be determined. This cat is still getting the lysine and the diarrhea is not currently a problem. I emailed Dr. Hovfe about the lysine"s potential to cause this and did not get a reponse from her.

Can you cut the dose in half and see if the diarrhea continues. The 250 milligrams might be high for his body size and weight.

If your kitten is going to have this problem (the herpes outbreaks) on a continuing basis you need to use a better food than the Purina. He needs a high quality protein product such as Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, Natural Balance to keep his immune system at the highest possible level. A raw meat diet would be optimal. You can go to www.catinfo.org to read about that, or www.littlebigcat.com for Jean Hofve's articles on cat nutrition and one on the chronic herpes problem. www.ThePetCenter.com also has excellent articles on cat nutrition.

I'm wondering how you administer the lysine using dry food.

Oral administration of l-lysine, usually 250 to 500mg per day, is helpful in controlling herpes virus
infections over the long run (in BOTH human & Felines). This interferes with the virus' ability to replicate and helps keep it in
check.

A LOT of vets prescribe L-Lysine for feline herpes. I know that dogs and cats get VERY loose stools when you change their food. I am thinking it was the food change.

Good Luck!

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/HERPESCures2o15ZTfw

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

We have been using it for years at the shelter and it never caused diahrrhea.

Maybe try a better food. Purina is not known for great quality. too much corn and colors.

coming from a long time cat owner i have found that you should NEVER give a cat people meds it could kill it real quick, now a little peroxide on a Kleenex for his little eyes works good.please don't give it any more of your meds.
