I take a shower like twice a day and have used all of the dandruff shampoos. Within an hour after a shower the smell is back!! Can an out of whack thyroid be the culprit?? I'm having other symptoms of a thyroid problem, but I can't link scalp conditions to any thyroid disorders.

I have never heard anything like this as a symptom of a thyroid problem. What other symptoms do you have that make you think of a thyroid problem?

Itchiness in general, especially an itchy scalp is a symptom of a thyroid problem though.

http://www.smellyscalp.com/ I found this site to be helpful in the removal of the odor. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor about this product. I did read a few forum postings on the net for you and some people did say the funky odor as they call it was due to a low (hypothyroidism) thyroid. It wouldn't hurt for you to have a bloodtest to check it out. Good luck to you. Maybe even try that sulfer shampoo

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/RIr7O

Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).

1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.

2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.
