Didn't they prove that they don't affect anything a few months ago with their little protest?

It's not as if the illegals are CEO's and doctors, you know. They won't affect much. In fact, I agree, it would be quite beneficial to America as a whole. So why don't we start carting them off?

A big part of illegal immigration is the fact that they work in manufacturing. Cost of manufacturing is tied to output - which is tied to GDP - which is tied to the value of a dollar. Can you imagine paying $20 for a Big Mac?

Lets get back to your lawn and maid comment. Lets say your household makes 100k year. Illegal immigrants will generally do jobs for less providing you with more money. With an extra 10-20k you would normally go out to eat, buy a TV, go to a few extra football games or invest it. Whether that money enters the enters the economy or if the US would benefit more from taxing illegal immigrant workers is the great debate

Finally regarding the protest - a day off is hardly a protest. IMHO many of them are so hardworking - they could probably take two days off and make up for the lost hours by the end of the week.

Yes I think they did more harm to themselves with the protest. There are many High School kids eager to make some money by mowing lawns and there are many American Citizens that have house cleaning businesses. The problem is that they really drive down American wages because they work so cheaply and force people to work for less.

The construction workers by my house make $15/hr. They take 2 hour lunch breaks and drink beer on them.. so yes, many people I know would love these jobs! Especially younger people

They would effect the economy in this way...Americans citizens could apply for the Maid jobs, and Americans could start their own lawn care business. The ones that got squeezed out by the illegals in the first place. Yeah, remember them?

We'll probably have to pay $1.50 for a head of lettuce instead of $0.99. But when our taxes go down because we don't have to pay for so much free emergency room care and welfare, I think we'll be ahead. (Oh, and by the way, our cars won't get stolen as much either, so our insurance premiums will go down).

by getting off of welfare, out of our schools and hospitals, not being on the roads without insurance, and not being in our jails they'll give us more money to pay Americans to do those jobs.

For one thing if you live in the Salinas Valley Ca you can see fields and fields full of Mexican workers who bring you your veggies day in and day out. Not too many , if any, other people want back breaking jobs like that.
