Yes it is important, it is important, that your clients feel secure, in your salon,from any accident or any form of potential problem,it will give them a good impression that will last,and will even attract more clients,and keep them coming back.it is one thing i know is that the most care free females out there definitely likes to be in a safe environment.
As for your colleagues,they must also feel comfortable,as this enables them to have pride and a willing attitude to get things done the right way,(when following procedures) of your work place.

wow, do people really think about this stuff? OK i am in the industry, and there are several things. most important is sanitation against bacteria and infections. clean combs and brushes should always be used. cutting implements should be cleaned after each use. i never work on a client who has an open sore or wound on their head, ( this has never happened to me in 15 years tho.) if i happen to cut myself, i never continue the service till after the bleeding stops and i am bandaged up. clean capes and clean towels should always be uesd , if a clean cape for every customer is not possible then they should use a thing called a neck strip between you and the cape. if you need any further information on sanitation, check out a publication called Informed. its for our industries continuing education requirements

its important to insure saftey of your clients..
mop the floors after spills....
do chemical strand test..to ensure there are no alergies and the hair can stan up to the process...
