he's a great guy, sweet, very loving, but he says things that hurts my feelings because of his own insecurities...i know i shouldnt deal with it, but a part of me wants him because he's good sometimes, and the other part of me wants to break up because i dont feel the same way when im with him...
i dont want to hurt him, but i dont want to drag him on....

tell him gently and honestly. thats the only way to do it and hope he understands and lets you go.

Why should you deal with his insecurities? That's his own problem that he needs to deal with.
Say you're not ready for a boyfriend. Say your parents don't allow you to date 1 on 1. Say your going to be too busy with school and family to be anyone's girlfriend.
