Currently I'm in college and taking spanish. I know its going to be useful later on in life and on the job. But I'm not real interested in spanish. I've been taking it since 7th grade and still can't speak it that good. But I've always had a intrest in japanese, mainly because I think My ears are more intune to it than spanish. I say that because I watch a lot of anime on youtube and its in japanese with subtitles.
So should I try and learn both or just choose one over the other?
What can I do to improve my spanish and learn it better?

I think Spanish will be more useful for you in the short-term, and what you could do is try to socialize with people who speak spanish and practice! Practicing is the best way to learn, or rent movies and listen to them in spanish while you have the english subtitles, just the way you do with japanese animes. On the other hand, if i were you, i would first try to enhance my spanish abilities, and then take courses of japanese (which by the way is a lot more difficult than spanish). Good Luck!

Spanish is also extra valuable - it is within the most sensible three so much spoken languages global, together with Mandarin and English. But Japanese is amusing and might be valuable if you are in Japan. I am within the identical role as you on the second, so I made up our minds to be taught each! I discover that I can decide on up Japanese phrases and terms with no trouble via looking cartoons like Naruto and Bleach (now not the English dubbed ones!) that's particularly a amusing means of doing it! For you, you'll instruction Spanish via speaking on your neighbours. And have the great of each worlds.

Kevin- If you take Japanese to for the sole purpose of trying to understand anime, then I think you'll be disappointed. Japanese is a VERY in-depth language, and has a lot of things in it that take you years to learn. Speaking Japanese isn't all that hard, but having the ability to understand it to the point where you can watch anime with the subtitles off is years in the making. Spanish, while hard, isn't as linguistcally in-depth, and you could probably translate Spanish cartoons if you wanted to. Point is- if you wanna take Japanese, take it, but don't expect to get anything out of it until after at least three or four years of study.

It's a really tough choice... I speak Spanish, and I know it's not an easy language to speak, and people who take it as a second language find it really hard sometimes. I've studied Japanese for two years, and it has its hard things but, for me, it's way easier than Spanish.
Maybe you could try taking them both for a while and see what happens, maybe you'll like one better than the other eventually.
As for improving your Spanish... the only good tip I can give you is just practice; it wouldn't hurt if you also had someone who speaks Spanish so you could practice.

I had been learning Spanish for a long time without making any headway towards becoming fluent. This summer I took Italian to try a new language and now I'm studying German. It helps to get off of a language if you've been studying it for a while and to try some new languages. Studying Japanese might be a good thing. It might make you realize how easy learning Spanish is and maybe you'll go back to it.

Well you could talk to illegal immigrants and try to convince them to go back to Mexico. That will help out your Spanish a lot. If you plan on going to Japan later on then it might be good to learn the language but I don't see how you would use the language here in the USA.

If one of the top five reasons you want to learn a language falls under "I like to watch their cartoons", please don't bother learning.
