Okay, for the head lice this season...it is a bit tricky...we have been battling with my step daughters lice problem for almost 2 months now...but so far this treatment has worked...contrary to popular belief...the new lice are not going away with RID or Dr. perscription...vinegar is not even working on them....so...there is a new way to do this...there is an acne medication called Cetaphil (blue label not green) and it is up for FDA approval for headlice...it really does work though. What you do is get a 16 oz bottle of this and get a bottle that has a pointed nossle on it. You can use those old style ketchup bottles or even a new hair dye bottle with nothing in it. You poor 1/3 of the cetaphil in the bottle and saturate the hair. Wait for 15-20 minutes then take a fine toothed comb or pick and comb the access stuff out of the hair...then use a nit comb and get the access out. put your child's hair in a pony tail or out of their face and put them to bed. When they wake up wash there hair as you would normally and style. You have to do this every seven days for 3 weeks. It is a natural substance so it doesn't contain chemicals...and will not harm the child's hair or scalp...just do not get it in their eyes. Do not use any other product for lice when you are doing this. Make sure that you wash blackets, pillows, clothes, etc. and get the RID funisher cleaner and spray carpets, stuffed animals, and furnisher. You have to remember that lice can live up to 3 days outside of a host that means in carpet, etc. Animals can not carry lice so you do not have to worry about them...and DO NOT under any circumstances use Tick & Flea shampoo....if animals can not have lice there is no reason why that kind of shampoo would work on a child.

when i was a kid my parents used burnt motor oil. but the best luck i had was lice shampoo, you can buy it any where, Wal-mart etc. it comes with a fine tooth comb, and the shampoo. you wash you hair, and while it's wet comb it. It is a long strenuous activity. spray down your bed and wash all your covers in hot water, boil all you hair brush on the stove. Spray anything that you head came into contact with. (with bug spray) Don't just go out and buy new hair brushes, because you need to have your head checked again in about a week to make sure that you are not still a carrier. if it is your child you should contact the school and have them check all the children's heads for lice. until they have done that you should only wash your hair every other day because lice actually don't like a dirty home. Cleaner the hair more likely you are to get it.

if you want to use natural methods, get some shampoo and some conditioner that both contain tea tree, head lice can't stand it. When washing your hair, comb the conditioner through and you will remove lice that way. Also comb after washing, because they remain still on your head whilst your hair is wet. Keep doing this for about 2 to 3 weeks, and you'll be free of headlice - it works really well, as sometimes the treatments available in shops don't work completely as some lice seem to be becoming resistant to chemicals used to get rid of them.

simply wash hair with half and half vineger and water solution. But before washing let the solution dry in the hair. Repeay in case the lice dont finish in the first go.
Ive gheard that lice cant stay in a sour enviroment.
Also wash and vacuum all bedding and dust the sofas.
Better check the hair of other family members too!!
Plz also use a lice comb regularly and get hold of all the lice that come off and kil them using the nail untill a sound comes. This will ensure that they wont reenter the hair!
hope this helps :)

AHH, the big head lice question. This is the time of year. Kids are back in school and just lovin to infect another with head lice. As a mother of 3, I have experienced this many times. I have tried drug store solutions and many home remedies. Drug store solutions don't really work, i find they keep coming back. The home remedies that have worked for me are these, much cheaper solutions. Poor vinegar over dry hair, fully saturate it. Then wrap head in a plastic bag. It does not burn the scalp, but watch out for the eyes. After an hour, remove the bag and go through the hair with special nit comb, take out all the nits(lice eggs). You can also try Vaseline(petroleum jelly), smother the hair with it fully and again, wrap with plastic bag for an hour. This method also works but is a pain to wash out of the hair. Another is a combination of cooking oil and vinegar, used with the bag and comb again. All have worked for me.To get rid of them from your home is another hassle. Clean everything in the home, remove all bedding's, and clean, vacuum, and bag all stuffed animals for at least 3 weeks. There is also a spray you can buy, at pharmacies to spray on furniture and things, haven't tried it, but worth a shot. Good luck

The best way to get rid of head lice is to put lots of conditioner on the hair and comb through with a nit comb repeat it until its clear all these lotions you buy are ok but this slides them out and you should do it as a routine otherwise the little bliters just keep coming back.

If you apply some mayo and vineager to your hair and cover it over night then in the morning wash it out with a hot shower. All the will die and be gone from your head. Wash your hair with flea and tick shampoo ( Dog Shampoo ). that should take care of all the lice.

The best way is using a prescription shampoo. Call your doctor. If that's not possible you can but lice shampoo at Walmart. Make sure you follow the instructions and use the comb that comes with it.

Wet comb every day, with cheap conditioner. I also look through the hair through a magnifying glass and comb again. (But then I am neurotic!). Headlice eggs take about 9 days to hatch, so keep on doing it for about two weeks.
Also, complain to the school if it is a recurring problem. Suggest they have an anti-headlice week, in which all children comb to school with a letter stating they've been checked properly by the parent.
Even better if you get all the schools in your area to do the same.
