I am going to answer this question as if the prescriptions are being written for YOU, whether they are or are not.

t's not illegal for a licensed physician to prescribe Xanax in any amount that he/she feels is appropriate for the condition of the patient. There are "standard doses" for it, of course, but if your situation warrants a higher dose in the opinion of the doctor, it's fully legal for him to prescribe more.

The problem with doing so is this: Xanax IS a pretty strongly addictive benzodiazapine. Once you take it several times a day for a month or two, you are going to have a seriously difficult time getting off. I used to take Klonopin twice a day, which is similar to Xanax. They both can treat the same thing. Coming OFF Klonopin (and Ativan as needed, btw) was NOT easy. The body doesn't like having it taken away, to put it simply. If you're going through 180 pills in a couple weeks, you are going to have problems, including a high risk for seizures.

My question would be, "why do you need that much?" Is there something in your life that mandates that much sedation? Is there a lifestyle change or stress reduction you can do to allow him to decrease your daily dose? Trust me, just doubling your meds is NOT the best option. Easiest maybe, but definitely not the best. I tried that option. Fortunately, now I don't take any at all.

well , in the first place , there is no .10 mg in xanax , you have a .5 , .25 , 1.0 , and 2.0 , now depending on the daily dosage perscribed by the doctor , it's hard to say , so before you start getting nosey in somone elses business , you need to have YOUR DUCK'S all in a row .

ty : ( LB

and then somone could be doctor shopping ! ( having more than 1 script , or more than 1 Dr. )

PS Doctors dont fill perscriptins , Pharmacists fill them , Doctors write them !

VERY unethical! The doctor HAS to know he is feeding an addiction. You can complain to the medical board and have his behavior reviewed. He should lose his license...

It's also highly unusual to have a prescription for that quantity of xanax. I don't know if it's allowed here in the US, but that in and of itself is suspect....

Go to your state medical board and complain!

I consider it malpractice to feed an addict dope. The legality depends on state law. The medical association should take his license.
