WHY would you want to punish her?? It's her hair, and she just wants to express herself. And if you think that it looks good, why would you punish her. THAT IS SO STUPID!!!! You're daughter is getting older and it is about time you allow her to make decisions for herself. Especially with her appearance. If she wants to cut her hair, and add some style to it then allow her to do so. And at 12 years old, young girls can have many self esteem issues. If you were dumb enough to cut off her hair too short ( as punishment) and other children made fun of her, that would be very traumatic to her. And of course, she could begin to resent you.
I'm sorry to tell you, but if you are this uptight with your children, you are in for it. They will soon start to rebel. Being strict is good when it come to important things like education and their health. But over something as minor as cutting their hair, that's pushing it. You need to learn that you can't control everything, and children need to learn to become their own person in order to survive in this world.

why punish her by cutting her hair even shorter?? That makes no sense. She's 12 she should have the right to decide if she wants it short or long. the lenght being almost to her waist might be a problem for her. headaches, maintains of it sports a lot of things. why don't you talk to her. Hair will grow back,it's not like she got a tattoo. If she must be punished for doing it without permission then make it about the lack of permission and ground her or take away a privilege.

I'll just say that I cut my hair without permission for the first time when I was 11. It was the best thing I could have done at that time in my life. From that moment on, hairstyling became my hobby, now I do it for a living. Don't punish her for being an artist. Give her an alternative to being her own guinea pig.

I definitely would not punish her by making her cut her hair. That makes no sense whatsoever. Why do you care that she cut her hair without permission anyway?
If it's important to you, tell her clearly *why* she should not have cut her hair without permission and make it clear that she cannot do it again. Generally, you'd want to go with the natural consequence... so, if it DID look bad, she'd have to live with it until she could afford to get it fixed or something like that. Since it looks okay, I'd give her extra chores or something... but again, only if you can truly define for yourself and for her why it's a problem for you that she cut her hair without asking.
You might also consider asking her *why* she didn't ask permission. Was she concerned that you'd say no? Was she being impulsive? Who knows?

If you make her cut it more she is only going to get the idea that its ok to do something wrong and then it will get fixed.
I say if it doesn't look bad let her keep it.
Its a girl thing I cut my hair when I was her age and my hair was waist long with No bangs I wanted bangs and boy did I give myself bangs! They stuck straight up and out.
Make sure she knows that she shouldn't cut it with out asking but honestly don't get mad at her its only hair!
Give her a choice ask her for punishment if she wants to lose more hair or 2 days of tv or something to that existent. Keep the lines of communication open with her and let her feel that she has a choice in her punishment

Don't punish her. She is doing you a favor by saving money from going to the hair saloon. If she has a real talent for cutting hair, she might even consider going into that profession as she gets older, but she will need you encouragement.

Don't worry about it.
Is there something wrong with a child not having long hair?
Unfortunately, she went against a family rule (?), so maybe you should ground her for a day...I don't think it is worth punishing someone over.
It's nice that she has the confidence to try and do something so daring.
In addition, she is the one who will have to live with the haircut if she gets made fun of by her friends.

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys like it. And i prefer a person with short hair over a person with long hair because long curly hair tends to make guys look as well girly.

I know it is hard but please don't cut it to punish her it would be the worst thing you could do. Not only would it hurt her self confidence. And at 12 her appearance means the world. Besides you'd regret it once you did it. Find another way to punish her such as washing your car or scrubbing the bathrooms!

To make her cut her hair for punishment would be very mean. I do not think you should punish her anyways.
