This is for a novel I'm planning - I have a young male British Muslim as one of the characters. I read that Muslims are expected to pray five times a day, preceded by ablutions. I was wondering, does anybody have any stories of meeting with curiosity or perhaps xenophobia while doing so? How about praying several times a day in jobs and schools etc that don't necessarily expect this?

look, i practice Agnihotra, it is a daily YAGYA , it is said that if you are not at your home at the time of Agnihotra than close your eyes & do the offering to mother nature in your mind. so, likewise, if one believes, than prayers can be done by mere remembering God.
