Generally its the church or your parents making you believe in god but in some instances a person arrives at a belief in god on their own.
Making people can share that they believe in 'god' but yet have very different definitions of what god is.
To some its a white bearded man on a golden throne in the clouds who throws thunder bolts down on those who sin.
To others it is time-space or universe.
Some people humanize their concept of god and give god a human morality to decide what's good or bad (based on their cultural beliefs of what's good or bad).
Some people consider the defiinition of god to mean everything - universe; not human like-minded guy in the sky.
So to answer what makes you believe in god I'd have to say first define god then see if you believe it.

1. His presence and effect in my life.
2. The Biblical evidence.
(Did you know that the Bible is the only sacred book with phrophesy that comes true?
For example, there in Isaiah [I think it is Chapter 45] Isaiah prophesies about Cyrus coming to save the Israelites from captivity, and rebuild the temple.
However, they weren't in captivity at the time and the temple was still standing, so it'd be like me saying today Poplin is going to save us from our captivity to the Canadians and rebuild the White House.
Years and years later, Cyrus did save the Israelites and rebuild the temple.
(If I remember correctly they actually showed Cyrus this prophesy and that led him to go, just in case someone wants to argue they wrote it after Cyrus saved them.)
Cyrus is in the history books, not just the Bible.)
I believe in God not just because I have faith (you can believe the sky is green all you want but that doesn't mean you're right)(although faith does play a role in my life), but also because I have been taught how the Bible is obejectionally true.
(For all the Christians who respond on faith alone I encourage you to look in to what is objectionally true; even if others will not be convinced by it will give you a foundation when doubt is brought into your life. God never intended Christians to be dumb about there faith.)

knowing in my heart and soul that there is more to this life than living and dying so I "choose" to believe. No one can "make" one believe. There is a powerful being that is bigger than we are and we can feel it in our souls. knowing God's word in the Bible and knowing what Jesus did for us. I can just feel it. Prayers are answered and some are in waiting to be answered in God's time and ways. God is beyond words but believing in God is very powerful and in my soul and in my everything and being.

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!
Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!
Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?
My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:
Do you know how to play safe?
Your point:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...
Believer's point:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...
Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?

Everything...absolutely every little thing...good or bad. It all comes back to God.
There is order to this universe. God is our Engineer, our Creator, our Savior.
Chaos is Satan, the Destroyer.

looking out my window and seeing the glories in the Heavens and on the Earth. realizing that everyone has seen the effects of the wind but no one has or ever will see the wind. therefore GOD is like the wind everyone sees the effects of GOD but no one will ever see GOD while on this plane of existence.

well, sometimes it's hard to, but having faith and prayer and just visualizing him loving you and wanting to help you helps me to know that he's always in my heart for me. Trying to be like the savior and reading my scriptures and just having faith in myself helps me to know that Heavenly Father blesses me all the time. Even for the littlest things.
