The minimum is 2, but it's always an even number between 2 and 6. This is just to establish a contract with the US Government. They usually give out bonuses that increase their value as you increase the number of years that sign a contract for. The big thing to remember in this day and age: REGARDLESS of how many years you sign up for to be an active-duty, reservist, or national guardsmember... you have to serve a MINIMUM of 8 years of military service. SO, if you sign up for 4 years and serve those honorably, then you get out to take a civilian job, you still owe the military 4 more years of INACTIVE READY RESERVE service. During this time, you don't have to wear a uniform and go to military drills or do PT, and the military won't pay you for service during this time, but if Uncle Sam needs you during that time period, he can call you back to active duty until your 8 years is up.

This feels like your buddy has an extremely undesirable character ailment. interior the 1st place, if he went chop up selection interior the reserves in his junior 365 days, he does not setting up until eventually he finished AIT after his senior 365 days. specific Forces, aka 'green Beret' is an absolute minimum of 18 months of traing. yet to even get there you would be an E-5 with a number of years in provider and a number of different different skills. severe college dropouts want no longer prepare. 2 years of school, or an acquaintances degree is the minimum required for officers Candidate college (OCS), that's what could make him a 2LT. yet GEDs and undesirable knees do no longer many times get into OCS. yet while he have been given out on a scientific, like a bad knee, no person could beg him to return back. And it quite is been over 50 years because everybody has been 'switched' to the Air stress. they had some shake outs interior the late-40's/early-50's the place AAA (ADA) contraptions initially went with the Air stress yet went back to the army after some years. yet that replaced right into a million/2 a century in the past. My wager is your buddy is mendacity. yet you will get the on the instant poop quite. basically ask to work out his DD214 and/or get him to sign an SF 178 and get his documents your self. to reply to your suited questions, sure, a soldier could pass from enlisted to 2LT in 4 years. If, and provided that, he already had a minimum of two years of school and a few different standards.. there is virtually no functional way a E-no longer something and not making use of a severe college degree could finished uncomplicated, AIT, Airborne college, get promoted to E-5 , finished SF Q direction, then specific Forces instruction (18 mos), then OCS. In a very appropriate international, sure, it may be finished if each and every little thing coated up and all of the colleges accepted you without transit time, yet realistically, no risk.

You can enlist for 2 yrs minimum. But, after you leave the military after your 2 yrs, your still committed for 6 more years. Its call IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) If something happens and they need you (Like another war or conflict) they can call you back up.

? Do you mean what's the minimum number of years one can enlist for? If so, it's 2 years. Or at least it was when I joined up in 94.

all military contracts are 8 years. as many as six years will be active duty. the shortest stint on AD is as little as 2 years, but those will be followed by IRR or Reserves. how long you serve on AD will depend on the job you have.
