I've been researching online about medicine ball exercises and I know that they have been used by boxers and martial artists for years in their training, so I started there. Most of the stuff I have found involves some type of "contact" drills where they bounce the ball off of their abs or sides while they do crunches, etc. Does that really work anything and is it safe to do?

it's not by bouncing the ball off the body, but by using it for the flexibility, stability, and resistance aspect, but it does have muscle toning aspects that will help you. while you don't want to slam the ball into the side of your body, it's good to build the muscles and strength by toning those muscles first, just start small and work up with variations of different exercises

I also reccommend Men's health magazine, they often have good medicine ball workouts.
