How about those who volunteer to make the supreme sacrifice for this country's honor be granted an elevated supreme citizenship status. Above and beyond those granted to all citizen of the U.S.

Veterans would have their SSN amended to reflect their service. Their votes would weighted with greater importance. They would be considered first in all hiring in the US. Their tax burden would be reduced. Jury trials of honorable discharged veterans could only be juried by honorable discharged veterans. Veterans would receive greater social security benefits, and so on.

Theses elevated rights would be granted retroactively to cover all honorably discharged U.S. Vets.

And, yes I served honorably 5 years U.S. Army Airborne!

You can’t be comparing teaching kids to military service? Get real. And if the conditions of our union controlled education system is any indication of the job teachers in America are doing then I think a stint in the army would be a big help for them. You'd learn something useful for the rigor of a grade school class room...LMAO

I agree with you. After reading the arguments on here against your proposals, i think the disagreers are a bunch of hate mongering liberal idiots. I think your proposals sound very legitiment.
Veterans should always have preference when applying for jobs. This would greatly enhance the opportunities for minority veterans, who already have the status of minority to enhance their preferences, it would be an added bonus to them.
Social Security premiums is also a very good idea. Many veterans suffer from PTS, and many other ailments from serving their country, ailments that the VA and the government wont recognize, so increased benifits in social security would help.
I also like the jury of peers proposal, and that relates to what I mentioned above, as far as psychological problems that the government refuses to help with. And, a non veteran, or worse, a citizen that loathes the military, might just convict someone, because he/she served in the military. I don't think it to be such a stretch for a military hater, hate mongering American to do such a thing. Seeing as how theyt hate the people who are protecting their rights.
As far as a draft? I personally would love to see a draft, for thousands of reasons, but mainly to show the hate mongers out there that freedom isn't free. But we all know that the liberal hate mongers will run and hide if there is ever a draft, I say we first sacrifice them to the enemy when the enemy reaches our shores.

Is there a question in that rant somewhere?
I don't really understand your rant, if it is connected to another question somewhere -
I don't think many people in the US are against any Veterans or giving Veterans elevated rights. I got laid off and every time I go somewhere to fill out an Application there is a symbol on the bottom that says Hire Vets First. Life today is nothing like it was during the Vietnam days. Soldiers were not welcomed back as heros, most ended up homeless or in mental institutions - today an entire airport will stand still as everyone applauds soldiers coming or going.
As far as a military draft - there are draft cards that men are still are given in school but the draft will never be like it was during Vietnam - they learned that the hard way - when an 18 year old boy's biggest problem was if a girl liked him or not and then was given a gun and stuck out in the middle of the woods to run for his life and came back home (if he wasn't killed) with severe mental problems. If they ever use the draft again, you do not have to go, you will not be imprisoned and you do not have to move to Canada.. it's still a voluntary basis to some degree.

Hmm, elevated rights for veterans would be kinda cool. I served in the Air Force for 3 years and 10 months (honorably), but I doubt the majority of Americans would agree on such a change.

Well, I am not sure what your question was and I don't agree with all that you said, but I respect any and all veterans. I especially appreciate career soldiers who make great sacrifices for our country at a pay level which comes nowhere near what they would have earned in private life.

Thank you for serving our country, and, to those who want to criticize the military without having served in it, get a real, unentitled life. Being a soldier has nothing to do with politics.

I am an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy (1985-1990), and I am going to disagree with you. I think if you elevate the status of veterans, people would be joining for the wrong reasons. Too many people would be joining just to get that elevated status. As it is now, for whatever reason people join, most are for unselfish reasons.

But, I will take the tax break! (LOL)

If the military draft returned and all of the sudden your elite American sons could be drafted. That would cause congress to take another look see at our invasion. Secondly. Now you are talking about waking up the teens and col ledge crowd, which would bring back the Large demonstrations again.
Two reasons I don't think we'll see a draft.

You signed up to be a meat shield. That's all. You are nothing special.
What makes your military service to the country any better than my education service to my country?
I shape the future because I educate children and parents. Beef up my SSN so educators get more benefits and special status.
Since anyone with a high school diploma can join the military and not be covered under the constitution, why would a military jury be better at making civilian decisions?

First I want to say a huge thank you for having served your country...THANK YOU!!!
Instead of any elevated status I think that it would do the government well to raise the pay of those who are in the military to where they can actually make a decent living for themselves and their families. Also they need to make sure they have good health care for the rest of their lives especially if they are injured in the line of duty and not say their ailments are all in their heads ie Gulf War Syndrome...They need to bring up the standard of living for all men and women in service and give them benefits for serving I agree...like teachers I feel they are under appreciated and under paid and need to be given the consideration and respect they are due!

Sounds alot like Plato's argument in the republic. I tend to disagree, beacause "special citizenship" is a highly slippery slope at best. By creatin a seperate elite/preferred class of people you open up the door to abuse of status. How hard would it be to imagine if only special citizens got to vote, or had a different tax bracket, preffered admittance into certain jobs and universities, diefferences in credit scores and acommidations. Human beings have proven their inability to define people according to differences and maintain equality between those groups.

You make a good argument, and some valid points. And in this reply I in no way mean to devalue something that you hold dear. I'm answering your question and supplying some counter arguments as you requested.

However, it's just a basic principle that some people don't beleive that the act of killing other people's childern just to preserve the dominance of your president is in any way "honourable".

And military draft is regarded by some as a bad idea as that is simply forcing people to obey the president's command against their own personal beleifs and deisres, which makes it akin to a dictatorship and goes against everything you're supposedly fighting for.
