You can purchase an M-1 Garand rifle directly from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). They can ship it directly to your home or if you live close enough, you can visit the store and go home with your very own chunk of history for as little as $395. It is not all that hard to meet the eligibility requirements, here is a link. http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/eligibility_requirements.htm

You can e-mail me if you have questions on how the program works but it is all explained pretty well on the web site.

Yes The M1 Garand (formally the United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1) was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued to the infantry in any nation. In 1936, it officially replaced the Springfield M1903 rifle as the standard service rifle of the United States military, and was subsequently replaced by the M14 in 1957. However, the M1 continued to be used in large numbers until 1963, and to a lesser degree until 1966. The M1 was used heavily in World War II, the Korean War, and, to a limited extent, in the Vietnam War. Most M1 rifles were issued to American troops, though many were also lent to other nations. It is still used by various drill teams and is a popular civilian firearm. The name "Garand" is pronounced variously as [gəˈrand] or [ˈgærənd]. According to experts on the weapon, the latter version is preferred

Bound's hubby here:
You have two choices.
If you want an original military issue M1Garand, you can purchase one from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Most of the less expensive rifles available from them are returned Lend-Lease rifles from Denmark and Greece. These can be purchased for as little as $395, but will most likely require a new stock, and probably a barrel. You can get M1 from the CMP that were not Lend-Lease, and these are becoming fewer and are more expensive ($500 or more). See link, below.
You can also purchase a current production, commercially manufactured M1 Garand from Sprinfield Armory. See link below, also!
Good luck!

You can buy them all over the place, lots of gun stores have them in stock. My question is why would you want one? You would be better off with a bolt action (Mauser Type or a modification of it), the M1 is not all that accurate, makes a lot of unnecessary noise when you are walking with it, and can screw up a thumb if you don't know how to use it.
You can get K98 Mausers much cheaper, they are better made, they are more accurate, so why spend $1500 bucks to get something when you can get something for probably less than $200
