ok, well my daughter has just given me her report card and she has low grades ( 72 , 83, 84, 83, 90, 94 ) so this weekend she wants to go to a birthday party. should i let her go. and plus she is really sorry and im scared she depressed because of all these things going on at school. she doesnt have much time to talk to me and she doesnt tell me everything that goes on in her life, and i want to know so i can help. i want her to be happy, and by not letting her go to the party she will never learn how to live in a normal teenage social environment and keep her grades up if i ground her from the computer and phone and parties. What should i do for both our sakes

When I was in school 90-100 was A+, 80-89 was A, and 70-79 was B; so those sound like pretty good grades to me. She can't be perfect you know.

I say let her go to the party, and also get involved more with her school work (especially the class she got a 72 in).

If her grades are percentages on a 100-point scale, then those aren't low grades. The only one to worry about is the 72 which is still a C. I would let her go to the birthday party but then she has to study the rest of the time and not go anywhere or use the computer or phone for leisure. She may have to use the computer for her schoolwork. Find out why she has a C in that subject and see if she needs help. The other grades are fine.

Grades are a very touchy subject not only with parent's but also with the children. I think school should always come first. I also believe that a little bit of freedom and parental control will go along way. I never was grounded for grade's, But If my grade's were low there was no going anywhere or doing anything until they were brought up. I think you should do what you feel is best. There is a Happy medium somewhere, the hard part is just finding it. Good Luck!!

Those so aren't low grades! A 'c' is average. If it was a 'd' then that would be bad! Just tell her to get her grades up, if you really think they are that bad!I think you should let her go to the party! Make a REASONABLE curfew and ask who all is going. Next weekend plan to do something together so you two can talk about stuff. I will not say my age, but I am in the 8th grade.

I am a 45 yr old mother of 2 boys. When my son was around 13 that was the way he was. My fault I should have kept him home more said no more than I did. He is 16 now, he has over dosed from stealing my pills (I have to lock them up now). Been kicked out of school where he starts out with pretty good grades then goes down to failing. He has been on house arrest & probation for running away, stealing, school. My advise is to start talking to your daughter now or you may not have her around to talk to. Good Luck, Becky
